Hapa
Hapa perfectly embraces the peacefulness of Maui. The serenity of the group’s music comes from the oli (chant), mele (song), movements of the hula, along with the presence of guitar. Since the release of its first CD in 1993, Hapa has swept the islands and become the most recognized name in Hawaiian music.
Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole
The late Hawaiian vocalist is known for his love of the islands and sharing their beauty with others. Before his death, Kamakawiwo’ole, better known as IZ, released five albums, the first of which still holds the title of the best selling Hawaiian music album in the world. Kamakawiwo’ole was known for promoting Hawaiian independence through his lyrics.
